Cactus represent strength and protection and are symbolic of the ability to survive and prosper in a harsh and unforgiving environment.
The cardon' or elephant cactus is often mistaken for a saguaro cactus mainly due to its' similarity in physical characteristics such as height and girth. One difference that distinguishes the two species is that the cardon' will distribute its blooms vertically down the body or trunk whereas a saguaro blooms in clusters at the end of its arms or on the crown of the main trunk.
